tRAVELLING: ON THE PATH OF JONI MITCHELL (2024)
Joni Miitchell (born 1943) was one of the most important singer-songwriters on the folk music circuit in the 1960s. She began her career singing in night clubs in Saskatoon, in western Canada, before moving to sing in Tornonto night clubs. In 1965 she moved to the USA where she undertook tours. ‘Big Yellow Taxi’ and ‘Woodstock’ were among her most popular songs. Her highly regarded album ‘Blue’ is cited as one of the greatest albums of all time. In the 1970s she started exploring jazz-influenced songs. Her 1974 album ‘Court and Spark’ became her best selling album. In later life she became a vigorous advocate on environmental issues.
Emily Nussbaum, reviewing Ann Powers’ biography of Joni Mitchell in the New Yorker, wrote: “A daring, intimate book about a daring, intimate artist, Travelling is a thrilling provocation from Ann Powers, one of the greatest cultural critics of our time.”
