In the second volume of his authorised biography of Bfitish Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher (1925 - 2013) Charles Moore describes how she defied and broke the miners’ strike, changed the UK relationship with Europe, and engaged with the Russian leader Mikhai Gorbachev. In these ways she rode high. But in other ways she had to weather storms: the Westland helicopters affair, the poll tax, and clashes with the Queen over South Africa and the Commonwealth.

The Sunday Times wrote of the book: ‘The second volume is if anything even better than the first, a model of close research, fluent prose and impeccable judgement. Yet the real measure of his achievement is that amid all the summits and meetings, the policy papers and parliamentary duels, he never loses sight of the woman at the centre of it all. Almost every page of Moore's book throws up an unexpected insight or nugget.’
