Barack Obama (born 1961) was the 44th President of the USA, serving from 2009 to 2017. He previously served as a US Senator for Illinois from 2005 to 2008. Obama was born in Honolul, Hawaii. He obtained his BA degree from Columbia University, New York, in 1983, going on to work as a community organiser in Chicago. He took his law degree from Harvard Law School, where he was president of the Harvard Law Review.

David Remnick’s biography of Barack Obama covers his life up to his becoming President in 2009. The Los Angeles Times wrote of the book: "Brilliantly constructed, flawlessly written....A near-definitive study of Obama." David Remnick (born 1958) has been editor of the New Yorker magazine since 1998. He was previously the Moscow correspondent for the Washington Post, and won a Pulitzer Prize for his book. Lenin’s Tomb. about the fall of the Soviet Union. Remnck was born to a Jewish family in Hackensack, New Jersey, his mother being an art teacher and his father a dentist. He obtained his degree in comparative literature from Princeton University.
