The extraordinary story of Arthur Barry - the 1920s American jewel thief who slipped in and out of bedrooms while his wealthy victims slept. His thefts of pearls and diamonds had a value, in today’s terms, of over $50 million. His wife became suspected for some of these crimes, and Barry gallantly confessed to protect his wife. This led to a 25 year prison term. In a further twist he dramatically broke out of prison to spend time - on the run - with his wife, who had become seriously ill.

The New York Times described the book as: "Delectably entertaining ... vividly recounts the life and times of the notorious criminal -- and tabloid fixture -- Arthur Barry. ...Jobb, whose fondness for cold chapter-opens matches that of Law & Order's writers, seems incapable of penning a dull moment." The Washingto Post wrote: "The chapters are short, the energy propulsive, the research prodigious."
