Steve Richards (born 1960) obtained a degree in history from the University of York, going on to a journalism course at the London College of Printing. He started his career in television and radio braodcasting in Newcastle, joining the BBC as a political correspondent in 1990. He was appointed Political Editor of the New Statesman in 1996, and since 2000 has developed a career as a politicial commentator and author, working among others for the BBC and the Independent.
